The Master-builders
Breaking down (communication) barriers
How do you illustrate the importance of clear and coherent communication, teamwork, and respect for other’s skills and aptitudes? There’s a concrete way and you’ll find out here.
You will be divided into teams; each team will be divided into two groups. One group will play the role of “the builders” and the other group will act as “the bosses.” The two groups will be separated and given only one means of communication: a walkie-talkie. The “bosses” are in charge of communicating specific instructions via walkie-talkie so that the “builders” may construct a mystery object with the parts that they have been given.
To understand the other’s difficulties, the groups switch roles (“bosses” become “builders” and vice-versa). Listening and communication skills, as well as trust are underlined here. The challenge has several steps, with each step becoming increasingly difficult. Throughout the challenge, the teams must also answer a series of questions and solve mini-challenges, where concentration and motivation prove vital to achieving a successful outcome.
