Museums Monuments
There are over 20 museums in the Greater Lille Metropolitan area. Among them are the Palais des Beaux-arts (Fine Arts Museum), whose vast collection is second only to the Louvre in Paris. The Musée de la Piscine in Roubaix is one of Europe’s most stunning museums. Built in the 1930’s, this swimming pool-turned-museum is a glorious study in Art Deco architecture and design. The Musée d’Art Contemporain in Villeneuve d’Ascq will wow contemporary art devotees and soon, the Louvre-Lens museum will open its doors 30 minutes from Lille.
Our region’s belfries are symbols of a wealthy and powerful commercial past and today are registered on UNESCO’s world heritage list.
From Lille’s Vieille-Bourse,
(stock exchange building), to renovated textile mills and the region’s mining history, concrete evidence of a rich and varied past is around every corner
